Finding installed applications

Applications are typically installed under /apps, and are usually accessible via environment modules. A wide range of software is installed including chemistry, CFD, and engineering applications as well as commercial compilers and many programming languages.

Licensing

Some commercial software (e.g. Matlab) has licensing requirements that each user is expected to obey.

Permission denied error

If you receive a "Permission denied" error when trying to access a program, it probably means you need to request access to use that program either from an admin or from the administrator of the group (likely a professor in the department).

If the software is not available

Users are allowed to install software in their own directories or group directories. FSL admins will generally recommend that you install your own software if you will be the only one using it but will be happy to assist you through the process. If the software is difficult to install without root privileges, will be used by several users, or requires a license server then it would be best to contact an admin for help.
